Relieve Muscle Fatigue and Mental Exhaustion
71What Are Amino Acids?
Amino acids are the building blocks of protein. Almost all of your body (other than bones and teeth) are made up of protein. The protein is made up of different combinations of amino acids.
Amino acids are broken down into two basic categories - essential and nonessential. There are 9 essential amino acids (Histidine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Phenylalanine, Threonine, Tryptophan, and Valine) and you must get them from your diet.
You can also get nonessential amino acids from your diet but your body can actually make these by combining two or more of the essential amino acids. Dont let the name fool you. They may be called "nonessential" but they are still necessary to keep your body healthy. The nonessential amino acids are Alanine, Arginine (essential for growing babies but not adults), Asparagine, Aspartic acid, Carnitine (essential for growing babies but not adults), Cysteine, Glutamic Acid, Glutamine, Glycine, Proline, Serine, Taurine and Tyrosine.
Amino acids - a fatigue fighter
Studies have shown that taking 2- 3 grams of Carnitine a day could help people suffering from Chronic fatigue syndrome and it shows no real side effects. CFS can cause depression, fatigue, muscle pain, and loss of concentration. L-Carnitine can also be helpful for raising your good cholesterol (HDL) and lowering the bad (LDL). It can also help with depression and Alzheiemer's.
Amino acids - getting a good night's sleep and combatting depression
The amino acid Tryptophan helps make serotonin and melatonin which help control your mood and your sleep patterns. If you are not getting enough Tryptophan your body wont be able to make enough serotonin or melatonin and you could end up depressed and unable to go to sleep.. If you think you are low on this amino acid try eating peanuts, turkey, avocados, oranges, milk or bananas. You can also purchase this amino acid by itself in capsule form or as part of an amino acid complex (a capsule that contains several amino acids).
Getting enough of the amino acids Phenylalnine and Tyrosine may also help depression because they help make the brain chemicals dopamine, epinephrine, and norepinephrine. However you should not take these if you have high blood pressure or take a MAO inhibiting drug.
Conclusion
Most people who eat a well balanced diet dont need to take amino acid supplements. However if you're like the typical American you might not be eating as well as you should. You can purchase just the amino acids you want in capsule form or you can purchase them as part of an amino complex. If you purchase them singley the bottle should say "free-form" on it. Free form amino acids are in their pure form and do not contain other amino acids which will take longer for your digestive system to break down.
